Greenville, North Carolina— January 2009

In January of 2007, an arsonist set a devastating fire to The Memorial Baptist Church in Greenville, N.C. Smoke and water destroyed its beautiful 1973 Casavant.

Our church quickly made plans to rebuild – plans which would include a Casavant of similar size. A more eclectic approach was considered by our team with emphasis upon intrinsic fundamental tone and color schemes, with expansions to the organ where possible. The addition of a 16’ open Contrabass in the Pedal, a Flute Celeste, and nave expression make our new 28-rank organ outstanding.

Rebuilding gave a unique opportunity to upgrade acoustics. In consultation with Casavant the ceiling and chancel surface areas followed their exact specifications. These aural improvements were noticed immediately by the congregation, instrumental, and choral groups.

Our congregation could never have been more pleased. The project's end result was an organ that filled the room in rich color – with clear, articulate foundations and bold yet warm reeds. Coupled with the acoustical improvements, the new organ is hailed by many as one of the finest in the area. This organ indeed represents the most superb craftsmanship of Casavant Frères.
