Opus 3878, 2009
It came as a surprise when our consultant suggested that Casavant should be among those considered for the organ project at Christ Church. My recollections of the firm's instruments were of an unfailing alliance to neo-baroque organ building practices not in the spirit of the church’s hopes for a new organ. However, several new Casavant organs reoriented my ear to a new and exciting direction this builder had already begun.
Tonal Director Jacquelin Rochette has masterminded an instrument at Christ Church where every pipe speaks with a beautiful “singing” tone, containing resonance and clarity. In this rather intimate village church, a careful balance has been achieved between warmth and energy in voicing. Four principal choruses and the harmonic flute chorus combine to bring congregational singing to new heights. The two enclosed reed choruses are haunting with the shutters closed yet possess a formidable roar when opened.
Every aspect of Opus 3878 has exceeded our expectations of inspiring listeners for generations. Come and hear for yourself!
